Hi, check out my pictures below:
Last November, Rollo Younge donated three (3) sets of Chrome Steel Pans to the GBTI-Buxton Steel Orchestra. (a million Guyana Dollars vaule). These Pans came from VistaPan in Up-State New York where all of their instruments are hand-crafted in Trinidad. The quality of these pans are impeccable; maybe, the best in the world. VistaPan is the price leader for full-size, high quality steel pan instruments and is known for having the best pan tuners and makers in the world. Buxton Steel Orchestra has purchased/received several instruments from VistaPan and they well exceeded our expectations; everything from the pans rich tonality and brilliant resonance to the absolutely gorgeous Chrome finish. In 2012, COTAB donated our first set of Chrome Pans from VistaPan (3 Single Tenor Pans). GBTI and I have each donated one set of Double Tenor. Over the past years, VistaPan has continued to put a smile on everyone’s face when they listen to our music. The level of customer service and commitment at VistaPan is unsurpassed throughout the entire process of ordering and receiving the pans. They offer a full money back guarantee. More important, our main objective in this area is to make all our pans “standard” with the same “Brand”. Advantages of Chrome – Chrome is a very long lasting finish; the instrument will last for decades if cared for properly. Chroming impacts a little more brilliance into the sound and overall, a chrome pan has a much more desirable sound than a painted pan. This is partly because the paint restricts the free movement of the notes, resulting in a slightly clunky sound, but also because with a chrome pan, the entire instrument has to be “re-tuned” after chroming. The more time spent tuning results in a better sound and brilliant resonance. In picture, playing the new instruments are: Forefront – Tenisha Nero, Background – Alana Hasan & Donecya Sullivan. (Tenisha & Donecya are sisters; Alana is a forth former at St. Rose’s but has made the choice to play for Buxton). Rev. Raymond Coxall, Priest in Charge at St. Augustine’s Parish, blessing the pans during the Service on Sunday January 12, 2014. Backing camera is Tenisha Nero who has been with the steel band since 2010. Note: Our Steel Orchestra plays at this Parish every 2nd Sunday of the month. This gives the kids an opportunity to be at Church and they learn to play two new hymns/gospels each month. After Church Service on Sunday January 12, 2014, the steel band performed at Tipperary Hall for the 10th Anniversary for the Elderly Feeding Program, sponsored by George Abrams.
We are presently preparing for the annual Mash Steel Band competition to be held on Friday Feb.14, 2014 and Sunday Feb. 16 2014 (if we qualify for the Finals). By Rollo Younge – [email protected] |
